Prime Minister Of Cambodia Tells The Nation To Eat Pork
The Prime Minister of Cambodia is telling his people that they should be eating pork and to us this might sound very strange altogether. Hun Sen has been forced to take this action due to a sudden decrease in the number of people eating pork across the country. There are no moral reasons why the Khmer people should not eat pork; in actual fact it was once a favoured ingredient and was used very widely. The current problems with pork are to do with fear concerning ‘blue ear pig disease’.
Blue ear pig disease was discovered back in 1991 and since then it has been responsible for epidemics across Asia. Places like Cambodia have been badly hit with it and this year seems to be particularly bad. The virus attacks pigs’ lungs and it spreads really fast among whole herds at a time wiping them out completely. Scientists have claimed that there is not much chance of this disease being passed to humans but there is no doubt that the fear is still present. And this fear is causing people in places such as Cambodia to shun eating pork altogether. In Vietnam there have also been many cases reported and the problem seems to be escalating at the moment; 50,000 pigs have died there already because of it.
The Cambodian prime minister has made an announcement saying that his fellow countrymen and women should not fear eating pork. He has stated that there is no need for concern provided that the meat has been cooked properly. But until the government can be sure that the problem has been correctly managed, there has been a ban on the import of pigs into the country. But the fact that Cambodia relies heavily for their pork on neighbouring countries means that it could be some time before this situation is resolved.
Everybody has a favourite type of food, and one type that is always popular in this country is pork. Because it is such a popular meat, there is always great demand for pork recipes. Irrespective of the pork meals you deem as your favourite, it is always good to know how to prepare roast pork.
